On the 22nd March our Year 10 Biology (Unit 1-2) students went to the open range Werribee zoo. On this excursion the students got to look at the digestive systems in different mammals. The Herbivore Carnivore field study provides students with the opportunity to analyse the zoo collection of skulls and scats to determine the structural, behavioural and physiological adaptations animals have for obtaining and digesting food

As we arrived, the students went off and explored the animals in their natural habitat. Followed by a workshop was then conducted by one of the staff members. Here students were guided through activities that involved observation, collection and analysis of data. Finally to end the day students enjoyed a 45 minute Safari Tour of the African Savannah. The African Savannah is shared by many herbivores competing for food and water. While on Safari Tour they observed each of the animals closely, and this was an awesome experience for our girls where they got to explore biology outside of class.
